Bunt defense

Squeeze play

A squeeze play is a bunt with a runner on third, meant to score him. On a suicide squeeze the runner breaks for home on the pitch; on a safety squeeze he waits until he sees the bunt is down.

Defending it

The pitcher and both corners charge, the catcher stays at the plate for the tag, the second baseman covers first and the shortstop covers second. Everything goes home if there's a play; if not, take the out at first.

If the runner breaks early, before the pitch, pitch out so the catcher has the ball in time to tag him.
