The basics
Is Baseball Playmaker free?
Yes. The free plan includes every game situation, the fly-ball tool, one Learn session a day and your first game against the Playmaker, with no account needed for that first game. Annual ($29 a year) unlocks everything, unlimited.
What is You vs. the Playmaker?
A baseball game against the Playmaker where every call is yours. You make the calls a manager, fielder or baserunner makes: how to play the outfield, the pitch to throw, when to steal or bunt, where to throw the ball. Each call is graded with the reason and plays out on the field, and the review after the game shows which calls won or lost it. How a game works
What ages is it for?
Players 13 and up through high school, plus their parents and coaches. Accounts are for 13 and up; a younger player can use Playmaker through a parent’s account. The plays are the ones youth and high school teams actually run, and the language is written for players, not coaches only.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Playmaker runs in your phone's browser, on a tablet at the field, or on a laptop for team meetings. Nothing to install.
Which rules does Ask the Playmaker use?
NFHS high school rules and Little League rules. Rules answers cite the rule number so you can check it.
How do team and league codes work?
A coach or league buys 12-month seats and gets a code to hand out. Each player redeems it into their own account, which they keep if they change teams.
Can I cancel the monthly plan?
Anytime. If you switch to annual, we take your first month off the price.
Does it include drills or practice plans?
No. Playmaker teaches how to think on the field: where to go, who covers what and why. It doesn't run your practices or your roster.
You vs. the Playmaker
Is it a video game?
Not the swinging kind. You don't hit or throw; every turn is a baseball decision with a few seconds to make it, and the game plays out what happens.
Is it free?
Your first game is free, with no account needed. After that, sign in with your email to keep playing and keep your record. A full year of everything is $29 on your own, or less with your team.
What level is it played at?
High School situations and rules today. Little League and College are coming.
Can I play my own position?
Yes. Pick a position and your calls come when that player has one; the rest of the game plays past you on the scoreboard. Or play the Manager and make every call.
Can I stop in the middle of a game?
Yes. The game saves as you go, so you can pick it up where you left off.
Does it count toward my streak?
Yes. A finished game counts for the day, the same as a Learn session, and its XP adds to your week.
Do coaches see my games?
No. Coaches, clubs and leagues never see who is playing or how they did.
Players
Do I need an account to play the Playmaker?
Not for your first game. After that, sign in with your email to keep playing and keep your record.
Do I need my coach to sign up?
No. Create your own account with your email. If your team gets a code later, you add it to the same account.
What if I play more than one position?
Switch any time. Learn keeps track of each position, so you can work on all of them.
How long is a session?
Ten questions, about five minutes.
Does it teach hitting or throwing mechanics?
No. Playmaker teaches decisions: where to go, who covers what and why. Your coach handles the mechanics.
Parents
Do I need to know baseball to help?
No. Every question and every play explains itself, and plenty of parents learn alongside their player.
Is You vs. the Playmaker a video game?
Not the swinging kind. Every turn is a decision a player or manager makes, with a few seconds to make it, and the game plays out what happens.
Does it replace practice or lessons?
No. It teaches decisions: where to go and why. Practice and lessons build the skills to do it.
Should each of my kids have their own account?
Yes, if you can. Streaks, XP and Learn progress belong to one account, so each player's work stays their own.
Is there a monthly option?
Yes, $4.99 a month. Cancel anytime, and if you switch to a year we take your first month off the price.
How does my player sign in?
With their email. We send a 6-digit code to sign in, so there's no password to remember.
Coaches
How do team codes work?
You buy 12-month seats and get a code to hand out. Each player adds it to their own account, which they keep if they change teams.
Do my players need a phone?
Any phone, tablet or laptop with a web browser works. There's nothing to install.
What does it teach?
Defense on every common situation: who goes to the ball, who covers, who backs up, where the cutoff lines up and who makes the call, with the same coverages and calls on every play. In games against the Playmaker, players make the in-game decisions too: how to play the hitter, the pitch, when to steal or bunt, where to throw.
What happens when a player changes teams?
They keep their account, their progress and their streak.
Clubs
How is club pricing worked out?
Like tax brackets. The first 24 players are $19 each, players 25 to 99 are $16, players 100 to 499 are $12 and every player from 500 on is $9. A club of 60 players pays $1,032 for the year, about $17 a player.
Can each team have its own code?
Yes. Every coach gets a code for their roster.
Do coaches pay?
No. Every coach's seat is free.
Can we start with one team?
Yes. Start with one team at $19 a player, and talk to us when you are ready to bring in the rest of the club.
What happens when a player leaves the club?
They keep their account and their progress. Their seat lasts the full 12 months.
Does it replace our practice plans?
No. Playmaker teaches how to think on the field: where to go, who covers what and why. It doesn't run practices or rosters.
Leagues
How is league pricing worked out?
Like tax brackets. The first 24 players are $19 each, players 25 to 99 are $16, players 100 to 499 are $12 and every player from 500 on is $9. A league of 180 players pays $2,628 for the year, about $14.60 a player.
Does every team get its own code?
Yes. Every coach gets a code for their roster.
What if players join after the season starts?
Add them any time. Because pricing is graduated, a new player never raises the price for the rest.
Do players need to install anything?
No. Playmaker runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop.
