Bunt defense
Sacrifice bunt
A sacrifice bunt is a bunt where the batter gives himself up to move a runner to the next base. The offense trades an out for 90 feet.
The defense's job is to make the sacrifice cost something. The first look is the force on the lead runner; first base is the sure out when the bunt is good.
The worst outcome is getting no one: a throw to second that's too late and no out at first. Whoever fields the bunt hears the call from the catcher, who can see the whole play in front of him.
